Saving the Lost

SAVING THE LOST

The Bible declares in Matthew 16:18, “You are Peter, a stone; and upon this rock I will build my church; and all the powers of hell shall not prevail against it.” I can only imagine what Peter must have thought when Jesus made this statement that evening. What did Jesus mean? Peter had just confessed his belief in Jesus as the Son of the Living God, and on that statement, Jesus defined the church.

So what is the church? It is those who have placed their belief in Jesus Christ. Having established who the church is, Jesus commissioned those who believed in Him to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20). We call that the Great Commission and it has always been the work of the church to bring others into a faith in Jesus so they can experience a personal relationship with Him. Friends, Jesus came to save the lost and it is everyone’s responsibility that is a disciple to participate in that effort.

Effective and healthy churches know the following about reaching unsaved people:

  1. People who are not disciples are lost.
  2. Lost people matter to God.
  3. The church is primarily a mission station for Jesus.

May Mt. Carmel be that mission station for Jesus! May each one at Mt. Carmel be the voice showing the lost the way to Jesus.

Remember, INVITE, INVEST, INVOLVE!
