You Are the Remnant

I have long been intrigued by the remnant in the Bible. God has always protected and saved a group of faithful servants. Think of Noah and his upright family being saved from destruction. Then throughout Israel’s cyclical history of disobedience then judgment, God spared the remnant. Those survivors were then called on to serve Him, carrying forward the faith.
Through oppression from Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, the Romans, the Third Reich, and more today, God preserves a remnant. And wondrously, in Zechariah and Revelation, we read of a future great remnant of the Hebrew nation coming to faith in Christ, joining the ongoing faithful group of Christians as one church. Together we will serve the King of Kings for eternity!
The Christian church has also faced persecution over the years since its first century beginnings. Yet God has held the remnant together. Now for us in 2023, the church seems to be struggling, being pressured more than we’ve seen in our lifetimes. We may feel defeated and that the church is being methodically squeezed out of existence. God will not allow that.
Think of the prophet Elijah being persecuted by the wicked King Ahab and his wife. He felt he was the only faithful one left in Israel. God reminded him that He had “…reserved seven thousand in Israel whose knees have not bowed to Baal.” Yes, that was a small percentage of the population, but Elijah was not alone. He had fellow, dedicated servants of God.
You and I as true disciples of Christ today are part of God’s faithful remnant. What a great blessing! And what a massive responsibility! Like every survivor before us, we too must make our time count. We are protected for a purpose in His kingdom, and we are a vital part of the few. Go out in ministry and love.
